Glass Classes, Open Studios, Summer Camps, and More!

Potekglass is busy this spring with exciting glass classes, a private event opportunity, and local art events. Whether you're looking to learn a new skill, get creative with your friends, or explore art at the annual Art-A-Whirl, there's something for everyone!

Art in the Shop: Artist in Residency at Achieve Language Academy
Potekglass is proud to partner with Achieve Language Academy for an artist-in-residency program where students are brainstorming designs to fit the theme of "belong and grow." This initiative fosters creativity while helping students engage with the process of glassmaking.

Artist in the World: Loren Stump
Loren Stump is a master in the art of flameworking, known for his incredible murrine work. His unique take on glass art involves manipulating 2D murrine slices into 3D forms, often featuring intricate patterns and designs. Loren's work, including his take on Da Vinci's Virgin on the Rocks, showcases the depth of his skill and is widely admired in the glass art world. Learn more about Loren’s work and his ongoing teaching and exhibitions at his studio Stumpchuck in Sacramento.

Upcoming Classes at Potekglass

• Kiln Try-iT! (Sat 6/1 | 10 AM - 1 PM): Explore the basics of kiln-forming as you create a custom ring dish using a variety of glass formats.
• Basics from Boron Try-iT! (Sat 6/8 | 10 AM - 1 PM): Dive into borosilicate glass and create a paperweight, an icicle ornament, and small blown objects.
• Italian Soft Glass Try-iT! (Sat 6/15 | 10 AM - 1 PM): Learn to gather molten glass and apply it onto a mandrel to create beautiful beads.
• Boro Glass Menagerie - Turtle Try-iT! (Sat 7/6 | 10 AM - 1 PM): Learn the fundamentals of glass sculpture by creating small turtles with a torch.
• Marbles 101 (Thurs 4/4 - 4/25 | 6:00 - 8:30 PM): This 4-week course covers the fundamentals of marble-making, including vortex patterns, implosions, and twists.

Private Events at Potekglass
Looking for a fun group activity? Potekglass is the perfect venue for private events! Whether it’s for a bridal shower, birthday, or just a gathering of friends, we offer glass-making experiences where everyone gets to create a unique piece, from pendants to tiles.

Summer Glass Camps for Kids
Our Kids Summer Camp is back from July 8th to 12th! Led by Malcom Potek, the camp offers a hands-on creative experience where kids apply math, chemistry, and science to make unique glass art pieces like tiles, ring dishes, and relief sculptures. Sign up your child for a fun and educational summer!

Potekglass at Art-A-Whirl
Join us at Art-A-Whirl, the largest open studio tour in the country, happening May 17-19! Explore our studio, meet visiting artists, and make your own cast magnet or pendant on Saturday, May 18th. We look forward to seeing you there!

Potekglass Abroad: Malcom in Grand Marais
Join Malcom this summer for Cracking the Kiln Code at the Grand Marais Art Colony from July 24th to 28th. This immersive retreat combines daily nature walks with hands-on kiln-forming instruction. Sign up now for an inspiring and relaxing creative experience!
