Art in the Shop, Residency Updates, and Glass Classes

This June at Potekglass, we’re thrilled to showcase new work and provide exciting opportunities to get creative with glass art. From artist residencies to unique classes and kids’ summer camp, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Art in the Shop: Achieve Language Academy Artist in Residency
Potekglass was excited to host an artist residency at Achieve Language Academy, where students engaged in a project that explored the theme of Belong and Grow. Through guided drawing lessons, pattern making, and art history, students learned how understanding materials and patterns shapes our world. Malcom Potek guided the students to execute their ideas with ambition and persistence. The project highlighted the power of art and creativity to transform communities and individual experiences.

Artist in the World: Mayumi Amada
Mayumi Amada is a visionary artist who repurposes discarded materials, like plastic egg cartons and bottles, into stunning floral sculptures. Her work brings new life to everyday objects while honoring the fleeting beauty of life itself. In Flower Field, Amada illuminates flowers made from plastic, while in Doily of Foremothers, she honors her ancestors by crafting over 100 skulls from plastic tarp. Her art reminds us to live fully and respect the materials and history around us.

Upcoming Classes at Potekglass

• NEW Boro Glass Menagerie – Turtle Try-iT! (Sat 7/6 | 10 AM - 1 PM): Learn the basics of sculpture on the torch while creating a small turtle. This is the perfect introduction to making 3D glass creations.
• Kids Art Camp (Mon 7/8 – Fri 7/12 | 12 PM - 5:30 PM): Give your kids a creative outlet with our summer camp! Led by Malcom Potek, kids will explore clay, glass, color, science, and more through fun, hands-on projects.
• Open Torch & Kiln Sessions: Perfect for artists looking to practice, explore, and refine their glass techniques. Malcom Potek will be available for guidance.
  • 1st Monday: 5:00 - 9:00 PM
  • 2nd Saturday: 1:30 - 5:30 PM
  • 3rd Tuesday: 5:00 - 9:00 PM

Looking for a fun, creative group outing? Potekglass offers private event bookings where you and your group can create custom glass pieces, from pendants to tiles, in a hands-on experience. Whether it’s for a birthday, bridal shower, or team-building event, we provide everything you need to make it a memorable occasion.
