Exploring Glass Art with Boro, Kiln, and New Retail Offerings
This month, Potekglass is diving deep into the art of glass with exciting new classes, ongoing projects, and fresh materials. From melting and sculpting boro glass to exploring kiln-forming techniques, there's no shortage of creativity in the air. Plus, we’re thrilled to introduce new retail items and share upcoming artist inspirations.
Art in the Shop: Time of the Waves 2022
Potekglass continues to explore the concept of transformation and renewal with Time of the Waves 2022, an ongoing project about how Platonic ideals are broken down and reassembled. The process involves taking a solid, uniform piece of performed glass, breaking it, refiring it, and soaking it in water to separate it into multiple fragments. These pieces are then reassembled into a new form, symbolizing the constant cycle of change. Stay tuned as this piece nears completion.
Artist in the World: Roni Horn
Roni Horn is a conceptual artist and writer whose minimalist work centers on water in all its forms, using cast glass as a primary medium. Her installations, like Water Double (2013), evoke a strong connection to nature, focusing on the fluidity of water and the interplay between the natural world and human perception. Horn’s works often require months of firing and annealing, transforming her glass pieces into thought-provoking sculptures that reflect our understanding of nature and time.
