New Art, Glass Classes, and Exciting Events
June at Potekglass is filled with meaningful projects, new glass classes, and opportunities to explore art and creativity. Whether you're interested in learning new glass techniques or engaging with thought-provoking artworks, there's something for everyone this month.
Art in the Shop: Ahvah Bowl
Our featured piece for June, Ahvah, is a 14" round glass bowl that beautifully represents the values of love and interconnectedness. Created as a meditation on the biblical edict of loving your neighbor, this piece incorporates the Hebrew word "ahavah," meaning love, and uses the colors of the Palestinian flag to create a powerful visual statement. The bowl not only serves as a reminder of the importance of love and unity but also as a reflection of the artist's own grief and hope for a better world.
Artist in the World: Angie Babby
Angie Babby, a talented glass artist with Lakota heritage, creates deeply moving pieces that blend realism with surrealism. Her works, such as Ancient One and Melt, Prayers for the People and the Planet, explore cultural narratives and use glass to tell stories that honor both nature and humanity. Babby’s artistic process, which combines cutting, painting, and firing glass, results in stunning mosaics that convey a powerful message of resilience and connection to the land.
