Glass Art, Classes, and Unique Offerings
July at Potekglass brings exciting new projects, unique pieces of art, and inspiring glass classes for all skill levels. Explore our featured art, upcoming classes, and special retail promotions this month.
Art in the Shop: Punch Bowl
This month, we showcase Punch Bowl, a stunning glass piece that pays homage to the rich history of punch, a beverage with origins in Southeast India. The name "punch" comes from the Hindu word paantsch, meaning "five," as the traditional drink was made from five ingredients. This 18-inch round, 7-inch tall piece draws inspiration from the iconic punch bowls used throughout history, from English royalty to prom nights, and reflects both the significance of the drink and the cultural impact it has had over time.
Artist in the World: Narcissus Quagliata
Narcissus Quagliata, an Italian artist, is renowned for his glass and watercolor works, often exploring the human form. His most famous piece, The Dome of Light: Wind, Fire, and Time, is the largest illuminated glass dome in the world, located in Taiwan’s Kaohsiung Rapid Transit station. Quagliata’s work blends color and light to create sculptures that evoke emotion and provoke thought, such as his glass and lead work Melancolía.
