Art in the Shop, New Classes, and Summer Projects

Potekglass continues to be a vibrant hub for creativity, with exciting projects and upcoming glass classes. From custom lighting installations to exploring the world of renowned artists, there’s always something new happening at Potekglass.

Art in the Shop: Custom Lighting at Flux Arts Building
This month, Potekglass is working on a custom lighting project for the Flux Arts Building. The theme, migration, explores the relationship between color, movement, and the architecture of the building, as well as the busy street of Lowry. Using the success of cell forms in the Stern Tryptich as inspiration, this project will express the migration of biology and mechanics, creating dynamic lighting that will bring the space to life. Check out the color samples and lighting mounted on the building!

Artist in the World: Preston Singletary
Preston Singletary is a renowned contemporary artist who has transformed European glass techniques to express his Tlingit heritage. His work, such as Clan House (2008), showcases his unique vision and dedication to storytelling through glass. Singletary’s art is deeply rooted in his culture, and he has become a leading figure in modern glass artistry. Upcoming Classes at Potekglass

• Kiln Try-iT! (Sat 8/24 | 2 PM - 5 PM): Explore the foundations of kiln-forming and create a glass tile or ring dish.
• Italian Soft Glass (Sun 8/25 | 10 AM - 1 PM): Learn how to create beautiful beads with molten glass and apply surface decoration.
• Basics from Boron (Sat 8/24 | 10 AM - 1 PM): Work with borosilicate glass and create a small paperweight, icicle ornament, and practice glass-blowing.
• Open Torch and Kiln Sessions (1st Monday, 2nd Saturday, 3rd Tuesday): Work at your own pace with guidance from Malcom Potek. Certification required—sign up for a Try-iT class if needed.

Potekglass is the perfect venue for your private event! Whether it’s a bridal shower, birthday party, or team-building activity, you and your guests can enjoy a creative glass-making experience. Learn the basics of glass art and create one-of-a-kind pieces such as pendants, tiles, or beads.
