New Classes, Art, and Glass Sales

As we kick off the new year, Potekglass is excited to share new artistic projects, upcoming classes, and fantastic deals on Bullseye Glass! From landscape-inspired artwork to the intricate crystal sculptures of Donna Rice, there’s plenty to explore this month. We’re also offering Free Glass Fridays and exciting new classes, just in time for the season of love.

Art in the Shop: Willow Woods
Willow Woods marks the second in a series of landscape projects created by Malcom Potek. Traditionally an abstract artist, Malcom is dedicating his artistic practice this year to exploring the beauty of nature. This stunning landscape piece captures the essence of willow trees and their connection to the natural world, inviting a sense of tranquility and peace. What do you think of this new direction in his work?

Artist in the World: Donna Rice
Donna Rice is a Minnesota-based crystal sculptor known for her delicate, organic forms. Her stunning sculptures are created through the lost wax casting process, where she transforms molten crystal into intricate works of art. Grace and Mercy are part of her latest exhibition, Glass Lifeforms 2021, which draws inspiration from Harvard University’s collections of 19th and 20th-century Czech glass artists. Her work embodies the elegant, natural beauty of plants and invertebrates, making it a fitting tribute to both the organic world and the art of crystal.

Upcoming Classes at Potekglass
We have a jam-packed schedule of classes coming up this winter! Whether you’re a beginner or more experienced, we have a class to help you take your glass art to the next level:

• Kiln Try-iT! (February 5th)
  Time: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
  Cost: $95 (non-members), $69 (members)
  This class is perfect for beginners looking to explore the world of kiln-forming. You’ll learn to cut patterns from sheet glass, make frit, and combine different glass formats to create a beautiful glass ring dish.

• Italian Soft Glass (February 12th)
  Time: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
  Cost: $95 (non-members), $69 (members)
  Learn to mold and shape Italian soft glass Effetre to create beads on the torch. This class will cover basic techniques and surface decoration to make up to 12 beautiful beads.

• Hearts Pendant Class (February 13th)
  Time: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
  Cost: $95 (non-members), $85.50 (members)
  Create beautiful heart-shaped pendants out of Borosilicate glass. This intermediate-level class will teach you color mixing, color striking, and using tools and a torch to create striking pendants.

• Free Glass Friday (January 14th, 21st, and 28th)
  Time: 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM
  Cost: $35 (non-members), $25 (members)
  Join us for Free Glass Friday, where you can work with a variety of glass materials, including Italian soft glass, borosilicate glass, and Bullseye glass. You’ll have 4 hours of studio time, including equipment and student tools to work on your own projects.

Retail in the Shop: Bullseye Glass Price Update
Bullseye Glass is raising prices by 9.6% on January 14th. This means Potekglass will also be increasing prices to cover the cost of the materials. To help you stock up, we’re offering a special opportunity to purchase Bullseye sheets, frits, and rods at current prices until January 31st. Visit us in-store or online to browse our glass selection and take advantage of this offer!
