Art in the Shop: "Creating Positives" Class in Development
We are thrilled to announce the development of our upcoming Master Class on custom slump molds, led by Malcom Potek and Elizabeth Coleman. Elizabeth, a studio artist at Northern Clay Center, brings years of experience, including awards such as the Minnesota Artist Initiative Grant. This master class will explore the art of mold-making, combining Malcom’s glass expertise with Elizabeth’s unique approach to ceramics and glass. Stay tuned for more information on this exciting new addition to our class offerings.

Custom Lighting: Sconces for Your Space
Potekglass is pleased to offer custom glass sconces, designed to complement your home or business’s aesthetic. Our latest creation features tropical blues and oranges, inspired by the Caribbean, and is designed to match a client’s vibrant sitting room décor. These sconces are fully customizable and UL listed, ensuring a perfect fit and safe installation. Explore our collection of custom lighting and bring unique, high-quality glass installations into your space.

Art in the World: Stanislav Libensky and Jaroslava Brychtova
We honor the works of glass artists Stanislav Libensky and Jaroslava Brychtova, whose legacy in glass sculpture spans over 80 years. Their monumental yet intimate works have had a lasting impact on the glass art world, influencing artists like Malcom Potek. Notable pieces like Scream (1987) continue to evoke strong emotional responses, capturing the power and beauty of glass sculpture.

Upcoming Classes at Potekglass
This February, we have a variety of classes designed for both beginners and more experienced glass artists:

  • Italian Soft Glass
    February 27, 10:00 am | Cost: $95 | Member Price: $69
    In this 3-hour Try-It class, you’ll discover the beauty of shaping molten Italian soft glass. Learn bead-making techniques on the torch and explore surface decoration to personalize your creations. Expect to make between 6 and 12 beads, depending on your work style.

  • Open Torch and Kiln Session
    February 13, 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm | Certification Needed
    Spend four hours working on your own projects with guidance from Malcom Potek. Use torch or kiln equipment to perfect your techniques. Glass supplies are not included but can be purchased at the shop.

  • Kiln Try-It!
    February 13, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm | Beginner Class
    In this class, you’ll learn to cut patterns from sheet glass, make frit, and fuse them in the kiln to create a beautiful glass ring dish. This is the perfect class for beginners eager to explore kiln-forming.
