Custom Glass Creations, Upcoming Classes, and Artist Features

April is a month of reflection and creativity at Potekglass. We are excited to share our latest projects, upcoming classes, and highlight a powerful artist feature. Join us as we continue to explore the world of glass and its connection to both personal expression and societal change.

Art in the Shop: "Floyd in the Window"
As we continue to process the grief surrounding the loss of George Floyd, Potekglass presents the "Floyd in the Window" installation, created in collaboration with Kara van Wyk. This work reflects on the values of respect and friendship, while also confronting the ongoing struggles with systemic racism. The piece is a tribute to George Floyd's life and the call for a better future, offering a permanent reminder of the need for unity, empathy, and action.

Artist in the World: Kehinde Wiley
Kehinde Wiley is one of today’s most important artists, renowned for his reimagined portraits of African Americans in the context of traditional European portraiture. He is best known for his painting of President Barack Obama, but his body of work tackles important themes of race, power, and identity. Wiley’s striking pieces, such as Sancta Maria, Mater Dai (2016) and St. Mary (2016), force us to confront preconceived notions of wealth, power, and racial representation, making his work both groundbreaking and essential in contemporary art.
