Art-A-Whirl, Deborah Czeresko, and Solder Sale

May is here, bringing Art-A-Whirl, exciting new classes, and some fantastic sales at Potekglass! This month, we’re featuring Deborah Czeresko’s glass art, offering a variety of hands-on classes, and celebrating Art-A-Whirl weekend. Don’t miss out on our special deals and upcoming events!

Art in the Shop: Art-A-Whirl 2023
Potekglass is excited to be part of Art-A-Whirl 2023! Join us on May 19th, 20th, and 21st for this annual event that showcases local artists in the vibrant Minneapolis arts community. Potekglass will be open during extended hours:

• Friday, May 19: 10 AM - 7 PM
• Saturday, May 20: 10 AM - 6 PM
• Sunday, May 21: 10 AM - 5 PM

This year, we’ll be offering a family-friendly, drop-in glass activity from 10 AM to 4:45 PM on Saturday and Sunday. For just $15, you can create a 2" x 2" fused glass magnet to take home! It’s a fun and affordable way to get creative with glass and experience the joy of making art. We look forward to seeing you there!

Artist in the World: Deborah Czeresko
Deborah Czeresko is an artist and designer whose work blends food, art history, gender, and her own experiences as a queer artist. Czeresko’s glass creations often challenge social norms, particularly focusing on feminist and queer themes. Her work "Forgotten Potatoes" (2017) and "Fruiting Bodies - Creatures of Culture" (2023) delve into the intersection of mycology and gender, emphasizing how being queer is a natural, unifying force in nature. Her recent exhibition at the Hannah Traore Gallery is a must-see for anyone interested in innovative glass art with social relevance.

Mastering the Art of Glass Cutting
Saturday, July 22nd
Time: 10 AM - 4 PM
Cost: $190 (non-members), $170 (members)
This hands-on class is perfect for anyone looking to improve their glass cutting skills. Learn how to cut straight lines, squares, and complex shapes with precision using the Flying Beetle System. Perfect for beginners and those with experience who want to sharpen their techniques.

Blowing Boro Basics
Saturday, June 10th
Time: 2 PM - 5 PM
Cost: $95 (non-members), $85.50 (members)
In this class, you’ll explore the fundamentals of blowing glass in the scientific tradition. You’ll make tapered spheres, blow bowls, and trim lips, with all tools and materials provided. Previous torchwork experience is required.

Kiln Try-iT!
Saturday, July 1st
Time: 2 PM - 5 PM
Cost: $95 (non-members), $69 (members)
Learn the basics of kilnforming glass through fusing and slumping. In this class, students will create a 5" x 5" glass tile and slump it into a catch-all dish. No experience necessary!

Stained Glass Cat Head Box
Thursdays, Aug 10, 17, 31, Sept 7
Time: 5 PM - 8 PM
Cost: $175 (non-members), $169 (members)
Dive into 3-D stained glass creation with this class, where you’ll learn how to create a complex, functional stained glass cat head box with a hinge. Glass cutting experience required.

Open Studio: Practice Your Skills!
Monthly Sessions
Cost: $35 (non-members), $25 (members)
Join us for Open Studio sessions to work on your projects. These 4-hour sessions give you access to studio space, equipment, and other artists to collaborate with. Torch and Kiln certification required.
