Itasca State Park Panel, Micro Mosaics, and Plum Glass Sale

This February, we celebrate creativity and craftsmanship with stunning stained glass panels, beautiful micro mosaics, and exciting new classes at Potekglass. Read on to discover our featured art, upcoming classes, and special offers this month!

Art in the Shop: Custom Stained Glass Panel
This month, we're excited to showcase a custom stained glass panel designed for a client to memorialize their engagement at Itasca State Park. The piece, titled Itasca State Park: Headwaters of the Mississippi, measures 46" x 8 ¾" and was crafted using glass from Youghiogheny and Wissmach, with the copper foil technique. The panel captures the essence of the fall foliage and the rapid waters by the stones in this iconic park. Artist in the World: Julie Burkhart
Julie Burkhart's modern micro mosaics are a captivating fusion of technique and artistry. Known for her intricate use of small glass strands called stringers or tesserae, Julie crafts wearable art pieces set in sterling silver or gold. Inspired by everything from ancient mosaics to nature, her jewelry represents a rich, textured world of color. Julie’s commitment to preserving this beautiful, historical technique is clear in her creations. Upcoming Classes at Potekglass
We’ve got an exciting lineup of classes this month to help you explore new techniques and hone your skills.

Torch Work - Marbles 101: Borosilicate Spheres
Thursdays, Starts March 2nd
Time: 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM (4-week course)
Cost: $375 (non-members), $337.50 (members)
This 4-week course will teach you how to make beautiful borosilicate marbles. Learn essential techniques for creating perfect spheres, striking implosions, and colorful raking patterns. All tools and COE 33 borosilicate glass are provided. This class is for beginners to intermediate glassworkers and is a certifying class for Torch Open Studio Sessions.

Torch Work - Italian Soft Glass 101: Lines, Dots, Barrels & Beads!
Saturdays, Starts April 15th
Time: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM (4-week course)
Cost: $350 (non-members), $315 (members)
Learn how to shape and decorate beads with Italian soft glass. This class covers various techniques, including dot stacking, scrollwork, and silver foil decoration. A Potekglass Try-iT! Glass Torch Class or previous torchwork experience is required.

Kiln – Cracking the Kiln Code
Saturdays, Starts February 11th
Time: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM (4-week course)
Cost: $175 (non-members), $157.50 (members)
This class covers everything you need to know about kiln-forming glass, from tack-firing to slumping and mold-making. Learn how to create stunning fused glass pieces, develop your own firing schedules, and understand glass flow. This class certifies you for Kiln Open Studio Sessions and Free Glass Fridays.

Mosaic – REpurposed: An Illuminated Stained Glass Mosaic Class with Visiting Artist Wendy Andersen
Friday & Saturday, March 31st – April 1st
Time: Friday, 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Saturday 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Cost: $175 (non-members), $157.50 (members)
Learn how to work with stained glass scraps and create a beautiful glass-on-glass mosaic that can be lit from within or placed in a window to catch natural light. This 2-day class is perfect for all skill levels and includes glass cutting, grinding, and adhering techniques. No prior experience is necessary, and tools and supplies will be provided.

Open Studio: Practice Your Skills!
Monthly
Cost: $35 (non-members), $25 (members)
Join us for an Open Studio session where you can practice your skills with access to all our studio equipment. Bring your own tools or rent a student tool kit. Space is limited, so be sure to reserve your spot in advance. Torch and Kiln certification is required for Open Studio participation.
