Give the gift of a 3 hour session of molten glass manipulation in one of our Try iT glass classes.
Just Try-iT! These are beginner sessions intended to introduce a glass-working approach. You will learn basic techniques specific to that approach and the type of glass used with hands-on practice time to get comfortable working with glass and open your eyes to the creative potential of glass! While each class highlights different elements, techniques from each one contribute to a better understanding - and may be applied - to a wide expanse of glass craft techniques. All 3-hour Try-iT sessions are $95 per person.
What classes can I take with my flameworking gift certificate?
Your gift certificate get's you access to any of our Just Try-iT! glass classes.
These are beginner sessions intended to introduce a glass-working approach. You will learn basic techniques specific to that approach with hands-on practice time to get comfortable working with glass and open your eyes to the creative potential of glass!
Here are some the classes available with out gift certificates
Try iT! glass class: Basics from Boron
Learn the basics to gather, blend and shape hot glass.
Discover the sculptural potential of durable Borosilicate named for the element boron, which is added as a flux to create an American hard glass! This try-it will explore torchwork basics and each skill taught will culminate in a project after hands-on practice. You will learn to gather molten glass to create a small paperweight, smash and twirl a gather into an icicle ornament and experiment with glassblowing to create a small figure.
Try iT! glass class: Kiln
Simple to start endless in its potential; kiln-forming is to glass what conducting is to instruments. In this course students will learn to cut patterns out of sheet glass, make frit, and work with a variety of glass formats by combing them in the kiln to produce a glass ring dish.
Try iT! glass class: Italian Soft Glass
Learn the basics to make beads on the torch
Discover the ease of molding and shaping colorful Italian soft glass Effetre when it’s hot! You will learn to gather molten glass and apply on a mandrel to make beads on the torch. We will then explore surface decoration techniques to enhance beads. Expect to make between 6 and 12 beads depending on your work style.

Try iT! glass class: Cast Glass Magnets
Apply colorful glass powders to a mold, charge the mold with glass, and fire it to cast your glass into various shapes and sculptural options--to create a one-of-a-kind Cast Glass Magnet!
Try iT! glass class: Glass Blowing Boro Basics
Learn how to blow glass in the scientific tradition. Students will be pulling points, making tapered spheres, and sculpting bowls.
Please not there will be an additional supply fee of $15, payable by cash, check or card during the class. This pays or the jacketed graphite shaping tool pictured above, which is not a standard part of our class tool kit. You will be able to take this tool home with you.
Try iT! glass class: Glass Menagerie - Fish
This advanced beginner class is our introduction to sculpture on the torch. Using Boro color and clear rod, students will learn the fundamentals of creating shapes into small animal sculputres.
Students in the fish class will learn seals, how to tune a garther and smash, heating out tool mars, and how to work with and strike colors.
Try iT! glass class: Glass Menagerie - Turtle
Borosilicate glass gets it's name from the element boron, which is added as a flux to create an American hard glass. Boro is well suited for sculputral glass endeavers. In this introduction to sculpture on the torch, students will learn the fundaments of turning glass shapes into small turtles using seales, buttons, frit, striking and flame polishing.
How long are the Try-It glass classes?
Each gift certificate gets you 3 hours manipulating glass in any of of our Just Try iT! classes.
How to use your gift certificate sign up for our Try-iT! glass classes
- Purchase your glassworking gift certificate and receive your unique gift certificate code.
- Check out our Just Try iT! class schedule to see which classes are scheduled and have open seating available.
- Click the register for class button for the glass class you would like to attend.
- Click on shopping cart logo in top right hand corner of our website.
- In the checkout screen verify the correct time and date of your class.
- Complete order information form & select continue.
- Enter gift certificate code.
- Select apply.
- Select apply again then press continue to review your order.
Will my gift certificate expire?
Like glass, your gift certificate will last throught the ages.
Is there a minimum age requirement?
Ages 9-13 must be present with parent or guardian. Parent or guardian must purchase a seat in the class as well.
Ages 14 - 17 may be by themselves with signed permission from parents.
Do I need to bring any safety equipment to class?
Hot glass has been know to fly in our classes so we provide you with all the tools and safety protect your most sensitive spots, but it's up to you to bring clothing that won't melt or burn easily if a piece of hot glass lands on you. Natural fiber clothing such as cottons will not melt and stick to skin like synthetic nylon so make sure you wear something natural that you won't mind getting ruined.
