Rendering Mosaics with Katie Trent - Jan 27th, Feb 3rd, 10th, and 17th
5 Seats Available
Description
Learn to create your own glass mosaic based on a photograph or painting of your choice. Students will not just learn the step-by-step process for assembling a mosaic, but will take the art form a step further by rendering their image with all the nuances of color, line and shape to reproduce and interpret their creation with tiny glass pieces. During the four class sessions, we will prepare the frame and base of the piece, learn how to cut and shape the glass, glue it (or unglue for fixing mistakes!) and finally grout and finish the final product.
Students will need glass nippers, a small bottle of Weldbond glue, baggies or small plastic containers with covers to store pieces of glass, a plastic container for cutting glass into and a frame with picture glass installed. Frames should be no larger than 11x14” and should have a backing board. Optional materials include eye protection, tweezers and grout (not needed till the last session). Students may want to work on their projects at home in between classes, so should have a container or method to safely transport their work.
Students should choose their image early and email it to the instructor so it can be printed to the correct size to fit their frame. The instructor may also have suggestions about the workability of your chosen subject and make recommendations based on her experience.
