Mid Century Modern Flair In St. Anthony Minnesota, Christine Barney, Upcoming Classes and More!

Art in the Shop: Mid Century Modern Flair In St. Anthony Minnesota

These retro stained glass panels got out of the shop and into a gorgeous St. Anthony home last month, right in time for it to be staged and sold!

Stained glass has a magic quality to it, and projects like this beautifully demonstrate that a little bit of color transforms a house into a home.

Artist in the World: Christine Barney

We are thrilled to feature the remarkable Christine Barney, a distinguished glass artist whose journey with the medium spans an impressive 43 years. Born and raised near Corning, New York, Christine's childhood was steeped in the rich legacy of glass, thanks to her father's work at the Corning Glass Works. A pivotal moment occurred during those early years when she played amidst the darkened corridors of the Corning Museum of Glass. A witness to Steuben glassblower's. It was natural for Chrtistine to understand sculpture as glass. Later, her family history played a crucial role in securing a place for her as a student in Italy, where she undertook a two-year apprenticeship with glass maestro Livio Seguso.

Christine's artistic evolution is a testament to her unwavering dedication and passion for glass. With 10 years as a glassblower and 33 years devoted to furnace-formed solid sculpture, alongside 18 years of cast glass sculpture, she has carved a unique niche in the art world. Her artistry not only celebrates the inherent qualities of glass but also delves into the dialogue between color, form, and light. Whether through the collaborative effort at the furnace or the transformative process of coldworking, her sculptures emerge as streamlined forms containing a sensory thought, inviting viewers to connect with the memory of transitory moments and experiences. Christine Barney's enduring engagement with glass continues to captivate, and her sculptures serve as an evolving language of form, creating a shared identity with her audience.
