Waite Park Elementary School 2007
This residency involved 230 students and 10 teachers. Each grade level had a specific project designed to utilize their math, language arts and social studies skills as well as to determine their visual skills and manual dexterity. Our final classroom period was construction. Each student also had a site visit to the studio to understand glass-working tools and see the final layout in the kiln.
Kids and neighbors who live blocks from the studio finally had a reason to come in and explore the monolithic building that presides over their neighborhood. These interactions interaction shrank the neighborhood and helped foster a stronger sense of the community in which they live.
